Honda Access ariel/antenna
« on: January 27, 2024, 10:52:51 AM »
Hello,
I purchased a 2012 Honda Fit which was imported to the UK.  On the dashboard is an ariel with the words Honda Access printed on it.

Does anyone know what this relates to?

What is Honda access?

I think that Honda Access is an specialist aftermarket company who supply parts to Honda dealers and importers.

The item you have may be a DAB aerial. Do you have DAB (Digital Audio Broadcast) on your radio?

I have recently replaced the original entertainment system with a Pioneer touch screen system which has BAB+ radio. This required a separate DAB aerial which is stuck to the front windscreen as well as the original roof mounted one for medium wave reception.

My money is  also on it being a DAB radio antenna.

One of the potential disadvantage of a used import is the country where it was first used may not have had any DAB radio broadcasts etc. Or even if they did the   locals could buy it with a lower spec radio/infotainment/ connectivity   than normally fitted to export models.     I think thats still the case with the MK4 on some Asian markets.

Thank you for the replies, I really appreciate it.  The person who imported the car changed the head unit before I purchased it, unfortunately they installed a really cheap chinese unit and did a terrible job because the radio does not work at all.

I am currently looking for a decent head unit so working my way through the many options on the market.

If you are considering replacing the head unit I would recommend buying a make that is well known in the UK.

I made the mistake several years ago of buying, on-line, a comparatively cheap oriental make that while it worked, the touch sensitive screen turned out to be not very touch sensitive!  It would usually take several attempts at making any change to either channel, volume or any other settings so was hardly ever used. Eventually replaced by a Sony unit.

I believe  there is a rivalry on the Japanese market between the Fit and the Yaris   to attract  younger  first time buyers  who may remain brand loyal for life.  Price competition means they may have a low spec radio. They expect that however good the system  they fitted as standard many youngsters would fit their own high end system anyway.

So on the bright side  it could mean the original owner was a 'little old lady' rather than a boy racer  ;D
