The Garmin mapping is fixed.

Format your USB stick as above and follow the above procedure.

Garmin Express will not identify the new update and will tell you you are up to date :

Ignore this and on the next screen opt to Reinstall Maps :

When you do, the download is very quick as it seems they only need to download one tiny section if you still have the previous files download on your PC.

This means it goes almost instantly into Installing Maps at 0%.

Once it gets to 50% it finishes and you can again follow the above procedure to reload the car mapping.

Can I just confirm that the 16gb usb key has to be just 16gb and not higher or lower. Has anyone a specific usb they’d recommend please.

I’m picking my new xstar up on the 23rd, can I assume the update would already be done?

Thanks in advance.

...I certainly wouldn't assume they'd done the map update  :o ;D you may be lucky though!

I can't remember the file size, I don't think 16gb is a must, it will work with a higher capacity and probably a lower one too.

I just happened to have a 16gb sd card handy and used that, last time. A 32gb usb stick the time before I think.

As long as the stick is FAT32 and default allocation units then you should be fine.

I wouldn't risk 8Gb as it may need some wiggle room.

One thing I have noticed is the more you update the higher the % complete it displays.

Today it got to 380% complete shortly before it finished. While I was watching in the car it jumped from 15% straight to 300%. I reckon that may have something to do with it not fully removing existing maps. When I performed the first update from 2021 to 2022 it only went to 140%

what is the 'where to bug ' ? I installed 2023 a while ago , can't say I've noticed any problems but then I don't use the built in satnav much.

As I understand it, the system will not accept PostCodes, certainly mine doesn't. It accepts the first letter and then freezes
Will try over the weekend to reinstall the software as per the previous posts

The freezing was the original bug, now fixed.

To see if you have the bug, start the Garmin into map display. Top left corner is a black bar with 'Where To' and a spyglass.

As soon as you type in the first character it produces a spinning wheel and after about 30 secs the whole thing crashes back to the Honda home page.

thanks for the explanation , just realised I'm in the  Mk.4 forum , it seems the Garmin software is slightly different on my Mk3 Nav. , very similar to my standalone Garmin.

I have tested with postcodes and other searches without problems.

Just done a re-installation using the procedure as described in earlier posts and everything now works fine.
The 'Where to' function now accepts Post Codes and all is well.
Many thanks to the Kremmen and others for their help.

I did both cars with a 32GB SD card in a USB3 reader and had no problems, just formatted each time in Win10 with default allocation units.

Just updated my Crosstar to 2023.10, so why do I still get the prompt 'New Map Updates Available'?

Because it's stupid, just ignore it.

The reason is the headunit doesn't read the installed version properly and thinks it's 1 instead of 2023.10

Something I found out might be worth knowing.
I generally only use the car on a Friday. Last Friday I plugged in my newly formatted USB stick and loaded the car satnav data so I could get the new map and install in the car today. When I tried to download the new map  yesterday Garmin Express told me my car data was out of date. I had to clear the stick and get the data again. I have downloaded the map ok now. Hopefully it installs in the car ok.

Seems you need to download updates soon after getting the data from the car.
