Early Christmas
« on: November 25, 2018, 11:38:26 AM »
Hi

Needed new battery for my 2010 Jazz, went onto Amazon, put in reg, and had option of 4 or 5 batteries, bought a Varta for £80. When it arrived it was about an inch too long, so contacted them for an exchange and was told !!!

'We would need a specialist courier to collect it so keep it and we will give you a full refund'

So, It now fitts !!!

WOW! Well, if you know anybody that needs new battery of that sort and size...gitft wrap with a bow, or ring local garage/mechanic and see if they will purchase, then buy something for the machine! Win win all round. Merry Xmas from Amazon!

I just removed the carrier, that doesn't do anything, and now it fits.

do people think its worth 'adapting' the battery holder so you can put in a bigger battery? i'd like my dashcam to work in parking mode as well but the normal jazz battery is a bit puny.

IMHO the Jazz battery is perfectly OK for its job, never had a problem - but you do need to treat with a bit of respect and an understanding of how batteries work.  Car batteries like to be kept in the top 20% of their charge,  so regularly deeply draining the battery and not recharging it is a no-no. How many people know that an electric air pump draws up to 10 amps (120 watt) from the battery - always have the engine running if you use one.  If you get a Yuasa silver you get 40a/h instead of 35 and 340 cranking amps instead of 280,  all in the same size battery as the normal one.

Your can get monitors for dashcams that check battery voltage and will remove power to camera if the battery voltage gets too low.

The Varta has 45 mah and 330a, fits fine without carrier, i just put a bit of padding under battery.

The carrier is actually to help keep battery cool, as is the scoop on the underside  of the bonnet that blows air into the carrier ( the carrier will also contain any acid if the battery case splits).  Batteries hate heat,  it is actually the summer heat that kills them,  but most people don't find out their battery is dead until cold winter weather increases the demand on it.

Here is some good info on looking after your car battery..
