Now this is a big jazz!!
« on: December 06, 2011, 08:29:00 PM »
:o i have seen these in the states but never one over here, and i did not know it had the jazz name before our jazz's!! the small predecessor of the jazz was of course the little log... this is obviously a jap import.... its basically a vauxhall frontera, but better! its part of the isuzu/GM tie up honda had when they were using the isuzu diesel engines in honda cars such as the 7th generation civic before honda finally developed the wonderful 2.2cdti that is currently used in all their new vehicles....

I heard GM got some Honda engines as part of the deal.

Honda obviously got the worse end of the deal!

Lol not the first time ive seen something that appears to be wrongly branded :P haha since that more or less is a Vauxhall Frontera.... Seen a few Ford Fiesta's around (mk3 or 4 i think) with Mazda 323 badges :/ haha looks pretty stupid...no idea if there are any 323 parts in them, never spoken to an owner of a fiesta with 323 badges...

In the late 90s the Mazda 121 was a rebadged Fiesta.

Ford in Australia/NZ rebadged the Mazda 323 & 626.

Yes, mazda did a mazda 121 which was basically, as you say a ford fiesta! and it did not suit the mazda badges!!! it was at a time when ford had just bought a larger slice of mazda (they have been partners for a long time) .. so it was just a cheap way of introducing one of fords most popular models into the mazda range....
Full history of mazda and the ford partnership can be found here...

Slightly O/T but interesting: GM are introducing the Opel brand to Australia. Holden (GM's Australian subsidiary) presence in the Jazz/Civic/Accord sectors have in recent years been rebadged Chevrolets (i.e., GM Korea - ex-Daewoo!).

The irony is that until a few years ago, Holden were selling rebadged Vauxhall/Opel Corsa and Astras!

Interesting info indeed richard.. i never thought i would see opel in australia, they, as you say have always had the holden brand over there, making some pretty smart big engined saloons and hewts (pick up trucks to us!) be good to see what they come up with with regards to a new range of small/medium sized opel branded cars....

They will offer the Corsa, Astra and Insignia with Opel badges as per Europe to cash-in on the upmarket perception of German cars. Holden will continue to offer what we know as the Chevy Aveo, Cruze and Epica plus the Commodore using the RWD chassis developed by Holden.

A few years ago, Holden opted not to import the latest generation Vauxhall/Opel Corsa due to exchange rates for importing it from Spain. They replaced it with a rebadged Daewoo/Chevy Kalos from South Korean that got a lower score in the Australian ncap crash tests than the previous Corsa-based model!

Well, those models would make sense.. relatively new models, good sellers in europe... they should sell well over in OZ too.
