Lower rear brake lights
« on: February 10, 2023, 02:23:54 PM »
The dealer having exchanged the car - to my initial disbelief the first car had a cabin creak, which I couldn't tolerate - this one's fine except that I notice when drawing to a halt I don't see the brake lights come on when I check in the rearview mirror; there's no such problem on entering the car, pressing the 'Start" button and then operating the brake pedal  in  t h o s e  circumstances; odd... Has anyone else encountered a similar occurrence?

...Does 'drawing to a halt' involve you applying the footbrake?

What does 'lower rear' brake lights mean? I only have one set at the back  ???

I suspect the reference is the 2 normal brake lights as opposed to the high level centre job.

If they work when stationary then I can't see any reason why they shouldn't work on the move.
Let's be careful out there !

Drive around with your display switched to "simple" (see pages 141 and 142): https://www.honda.co.uk/cars/owners/manuals-and-guides/honda-owners-manuals/_jcr_content/par1/textcolumnwithimagem_1653971839/textColumn/richtextdownload_90f/file.res/2021%20Jazz%20Owner%60s%20Manual.pdf

and when you use the brakes you will see......this:

Maybe the light is getting left behind by the forward motion of the car.
Or more likely the seat/mirror positions are not precisely the same set-up as the original car.

I had the same once on a Mk 3 Cortina, the brake lights only came on if the pedal was pressed hard, the problem was soon fixed by the garage so the lights came on as soon as the pedal was touched

Reverse towards a wall and brake? At night.

Maybe the light is getting left behind by the forward motion of the car.
Or possibly parking close to a black hole and the light is being sucked away from the car into the event horizon.
