Judder
« on: October 23, 2022, 02:57:40 PM »
This seems to be a common issue - I have a 2008 Automatic Honda that has 44,000 miles on the clock. I have had it for 4 years and one careful lady owner before me (standard cliche). It has just started juddering really quite badly, noticeable at roundabouts, junctions,  traffic lights and hills - when i have to pull away from stopping or have slowed down. Reading other posts it seems like it could need a transmission fluid flush. I am actually away at the moment and am worried about it breaking doen altogether - advise please. It is due for MOT next week anyhow so it wil be in the garage but in the meantime I have to drive a frw hindred miles home (it seems fine on motorways) . TIA

Hi Joanna,

You would need to change the gearbox oil with an original Honda CVT-F one and add a syringe of Xado additive which helps cure the judder.

I have personally done this to my car and now works with no issues.

I have both the oil + a new washer from Cox motor parts (https://www.coxmotorparts.co.uk/honda-shop/genuine-honda-cvt-fluid-4ltr/)  and the additive from ebay ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202990023787 ) .
You will also need a long funnel to pour the new oil in.

If you have a bit of mechanical knowledge you can do this yourself.

it might help if you specify where you are, maybe other here on forum can direct you to a trusty garage.

Please note to rid the car of the judder, the CVT fluid will need 2 flushes before a refill and you will need 2 x 4 litres of GENUINE Honda CVT-F.

Do not be tempted to use any other type of fluid. I would recommend you find a local independent Honda specialist who will be fully aware of this problem.

I don't think it will leave you stranded, just your trip may be a bit uncomfortable .

for me it worked just draining the old fluid, filling in with new CVT-F and a full syringe of xado. no more judder since then.

How long as it been double the price?Looks like i might be doing it myself the way its going  :( wonder though if i hadn't rang would he of contacted me! this is always the problem this garage is 40 miles from work im not booked in till 9.30-10.00 but i start at 8.00, times money ....hate relying on garages

Now tells me it's £140 that's only single flush though, says if it's hot it will only need one flush. Thaught it was imperitive that it was 2 flushes

They are the guys in the know. Hopefully, they will do the job right. In their experience, a hot flush is maybe enough.

There were few mentioning abt XADO syringe and I would like to share of what my Honda main technician friend said about it.
I had the same issue 1.5yrs ago and my friend who works for Honda did the cvt change with x2 flushes with genuine Honda cvt oil. I then asked him should I use XADO on the top of it and he very aggressively asked me " do you want to kill your gear box and if you want to you can use that crap". He was very adamant I shouldn't use XADO for this issue and all it needs x2 flushes and religiously change cvt oil every 2yrs.
