under sill grommets
« on: September 17, 2022, 01:53:48 PM »
anyone else noticed the 7 grommets each side of the sills that the underseal is chipping off aroud them as they are flexible rubber, im of two minds of leaving them or spraying some undercoat on them before winter

what have you done about the chipping factory underseal, if anything

thanks

There are some on the mk 4. I think they were tie down points  on board ship.

Personally I would remove them,  treat any rust, and ,assuming its not going to show too much,  spray some underseal  or stone guard spray  then refit the grommets before it dries. Otherwise they might drop out.   You could also spray over the top -belt and braces.    Its best not to go mad with underseal as it can attract the attention of MOT testers.

the undercoat on the car is ok but they put the grommets in before putting the undercoat on and sprayed over the top of the grommets in the factory, this is what is chipping off to expose the rubber grommets

I think the Mk4 ones are fitted in the uk as part of the pdi .  Some owners find theirs are still in  a packet in the boot.
