Decided to switch.

Very good machine, pressures are spot on according to my ever faithful expensive metal digital pressure gauge :

Very nice looking bit of kit, no doubt quite expensive?

Did you already have the genuine battery & charger? Really the fancy one of these but it looks like it is £150+ including genuine battery & charger.

Any thoughts on the 3rd party batteries and chargers which brings the total price down to about £85?

I bought the whole kit including battery and charger plus it all came in a dedicated plastic box.

I did some research and Makita are up there with DeWalt in trade ratings so from now on I can get Makita bare units and know they are good quality.

Would you mind posting a link for the complete kit please?

Brilliant tool, I wouldn't be without mine, use it all the time.

With cordless tools you have to commit to a make, the batteries aren't interchangeable (Bosch, DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee etc). I chose Makita some dozen years ago, never had any issues with any of the cordless 18V tools and I have a good selection now from saws to drills to impact wrenches. The tyre inflator/compressor is excellent. The most useful item I have is probably the cordless hand vacuum cleaner, not up to Dyson standards for effectiveness but so convenient and it keeps on going, next is an LED work light.
Once you get a decent size battery and charger, you can then get bare tools, even a coffee maker if you really want. Worth a look at https://www.ffx.co.uk/ , https://www.lawson-his.co.uk/ , they occasionally do good offers.

So how do you check the valves of a tyre? Just by wiggling them? And are the ones fitted to Mk. 4 Jazz okay?

What I do now, after checking or adjusting the pressure of a tyre, is to give the open valve (before refitting the cap) a spray with Leak detector fluid.

£2.40 from Amazon. Cheaper than a new tyre.

A strong solution of washing up liquid in water whisked up to a foam and spread onto the valve will show any leaks.

So will spittle. My spray is conveniently in the boot pocket and available wherever I check my tyres.

TBH  I would only check a valve if there is excessive pressure loss on just one tyre. Otherwise I assume the valves are doing their job equally.

A few times over the years I have diagnosed a leaking shrader valve core  using spittle or soapy water, and saved myself a trip to a tyre fitter  by tightening or replacing the core insert myself.
If you have this skill (and make further pressure checks to ensure a correct diagnosis and cure)  the Mk4 should be no different.

But for most drivers its largely academic whether excessive pressure loss is a leaking valve or a tyre puncture.(or both)   Its still a trip to the tyre fitter .
