Hello,

I am in Europe and I own a Japanese Domestic Market Fit 2021 hybrid with which I am extremely happy.

Unfortunately, the rear left seatbelt got stuck and can't extend.

Brought it to the dealership and was told that the only solution is replacing it with an OEM part which comes at a cost of around 1000 euros.

It's a huge amount admittedly but I don't know what other options there are except never using that seat again. And I am not sure generalists mechanics can be trusted to replace a car's safety component either.

Any ideas would be helpful!

Question: Did the seat belt in question got stuck after you bought the car? - If no, you should talk to the seller!

A 1000 € for a single seat belt replacement sounds quite steep to me!
I presume that your car no longer is under any kind of warranty (otherwise, incidents like this should be covered by it).

In your position I most definitely would seek a second opinion from a different Honda dealership!
If told the same figure I'd look into getting a "new" seat belt from a scrap yard.

When you say not to use that seat again the m o t inspector will check all seat belts
to be working correctly if not it would fail, I seem to remember [years ago] a friend
of mine had the same problem I suggested him pulling on the belt while I hit the
metal housing for the belt with a piece of wood and hammer three strikes and it was
free, it was never a problem again but he did say a couple of days after he pulled the
belt fully out and sprayed some WD40 into belt holder, worked perfect ever since and
still did the sudden stop if belt was pulled hard and fast like if you was in a accident.
you've nothing to loose and everything to gain by trying it, hope it works for you.
