Honda Jazz Hybrid 2013.
« on: February 16, 2025, 02:09:44 PM »
Hello all
I'm new to the club so please be gentle as its my first time as a potential Honda owner! I say potential because I have the chance to buy a second hand Honda Jazz Hybrid 2013 with 34k on the clock for a decent price it would appear. I have researched the model and seem to like what I see but have absolutely no experience with Honda, this hybrid or any hybrid so thought coming on and becoming a member of the Honda Jazz as I will get one eventually (been recommended over and over ) but not sure if it will be a petrol only or a hybrid. I also thought the best people to ask are not the reviewers, so called experts but the real experts i.e. all of you owners out there that have wealth of experience and knowledge with regard to Jazz hybrids! So it leads me onto the questions I have to all of the owners out there.
1) What kind of questions should I ask when taking this Jazz Hybrid 2013 out for a test drive?
2) How do I know what the condition of IMA battery is like, given that its done 34k?
3) What is the real fuel economy like with Jazz Hybrids (straight from the horses mouth so to speak as owners know the real deal!)?
4) What are the pros and cons of the Hybrid Jazz?

Quite a few questions but we are in a dilemma as we are viewing the car tomorrow and time isnt on our side with regard to getting questions answered, so any info is very much gratefully received from anyone out there that can shed some light on the questions I have asked.
Very much appreciated and look forward to any advice and info
Thanks very much in advance

Don't spend time or money on any 10 yr+ vehicle before checking it's history.
These days vehicle score co UK have great details starting for free then compare on Auto trader for similar.
Avoid any imports Fit/Jazz models.
Plenty of petrol engine Jazz about try a few before going to your preferred route for older used cars.
7 out of 10 used cars have an issue or a story so take car or better still take a mechanic with you check and double check before you think about buying in familiar used vehicles.
Happy hunting your new car.

... and always check the MOT history on the DVLA website,  all you need is the reg no.
Also worth checking as many similar age models as you can find to get a good picture of what if any common problems there are. Ignore all the tyre/windscreen wiper failures,  other than as an indication of how well an owner might have looked after it. If you see the same advisory for several years running they probably didn't care much.

That hybrid Jazz is capable of high mileages https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=4978.60. The bigger concern for a car of that age is the historic usage pattern particularly given that it's low mileage. Did it do lots of very short trips with the engine rarely reaching the optimum operating temperature or was used for less frequent longer trips?  Note that the engine has 8 spark plugs with a common problem being that mechanics unfamiliar with the engine don't change the rear row of plugs.

You can get a feel for how well the hybrid system is working by doing a test drive. Once the engine is warm then it should stop running whenever the vehicle stopped with the IMA system providing the power to start moving the vehicle and restart the engine. It's a much smoother and more reliable stop-start system than the Mk 3 Jazz.
