Rusty Jazz or normal Jazz? Thoughts and opinions please.
« on: February 03, 2025, 12:53:12 PM »
Any thoughts on this 2012 Jazz. The pictures are not the best but shows some rust on the sill, wheel arches and in the engine bay. Is this normal for a Jazz of this age in the UK? Price is on low end. Thoughts and opinions sought. Thanks

We've got a 2010 Jazz which we bought in 2015 so second owner's with 40k o the clock. Local Devon car from new.

Compared with ours now on 101k the rust on that car is significantly worse. We have just had to have a bit of welding done just in front of the off side strut turret as the metal had rusted through behind the front wheel arch liner. Necessary to get it through the MOT. Apparently the nearside is going in a similar place. Muck gets caught up behind the liner and it's never cleaned.

Our EGR valve as highlighted in the engine compartment has no rust on it. Our wheel arches and sills are totally rust free except for where a stone chip has caused a very very small amount of rust. 3mm wide at most.

Personally, I would look for a different car. Sadly you'll never eradicate it. Shame as they are great little cars otherwise.

I have a 2011 Yaris which lived its life in the Peak district where they are not shy of spreading salt, and it's much better than the example Jazz you show.
Has it by chance lived near the coast? Salt air tends to get everywhere.
Personally I'd look for another,  as said by others you'll never lose the rust. Mechanical issues are usually not a big problem, brakes etc are reasonably low cost and can be factored in,  body/structural rust is a different ballgame.

That car has a lot more rust than my 2013 Jazz after 148k miles. Agree with others, find another example.

The under the bonnet photo shows that the brake fluid reservoir cap is missing!  :o That's alarming. Yep, I'd file that car under ignore. No point buying someone elses problems, and there are plenty of Jazz on the market.

Our 2012 EX has only done 45k, came from Dundee secondhand, is not garaged so is out in all weathers and has no signs of rust. Passed it's test today, as it always does. First time for an advisory though - tyres near to limits, which I was expecting as they were last year too! Booking it in for new all round, next month.

Move on. There are better cars around.

What comments on the previous MOTs, to be in that state the Jazz lives by the seaside or has been a flood vehicle.

Looks perfectly normal to me, if it was a car from the Edinburgh area.  Most Jazzes of that age are starting to rust, that's why I bought a japanese import.  I would look for a better car.

My wife's Jazz is over 160k and has now signs of rust except in the engine bay at a couple of the non-engine support brackets.  We are inland but 'Salt on the road'  :o
As others have stated, seaside = salt = corrosion.  Pity - perhaps cur back the paint and a cleanup? If not to bad, rub down and repaint otherwise the costs get bigger.   :'( :o
