MK4 Bonnet
« on: February 03, 2025, 10:06:43 AM »
Hi guys thank you for letting me join 8)

I bought a Cat S 2022 mileage 7.5k, the damage was very light, bumper and bonnet "NO" structural damage at all.
The Bonnet was repaired on the front edge but not done that well! so I am looking for another bonnet preferably in Crystal Metallic r565m if not I can spray it.
Is the MK3 the same bonnet.
I also own an earl HRV and a totally rust free DelSol I have had since 1998, plus a Rover P5b Coupe I have had since 1973! so you will guess I am no spring Chicken  ;)

Welcome to the forum.

From photos  mk3 and mk4 bonnets look very different.

You may have better luck listing what you need on one or more of the specialised  used  part finder  websites  . Just google 'used part finder' and several will be listed.      You list your requirement ,preferred colour etc  free of charge.   Various car breakers yards etc throughout the country monitor the site and if they have  a suitable car being dismantled they will contact you via the site with an offer.    Almost like personalised ebay listings.
 .
I used one a few years ago (I cant remember which)  I got several offers from different car breakers  which included delivery. The mk4 bonnet is relatively small and light weight so despatching by carrier shouldnt be that difficult or expensive, widening your chances of finding one somewhere in the country.
I was able to accept and pay through the sites own secure payment system.

Here is a Mk4 breaking https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/156321046311?_skw=honda+jazz+mk4+breaking+for+parts&itmmeta=01JK6A46K469CKD9MBPMT5EMY6&hash=item246575df27:g:htAAAOSwmHtmoivg&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKkvqUS%2BCzYDzW2lzzIcr8R5SMtjemEo3DMFcXZRXN0wfA3Jr24v88ejHoT9yuLfrJnWFcMjXtCgOQn2Ac9cecnYKokNRW9Sc4huMZjC40UXl66xhlgWctbBuw50cLZ9Vxj4flqqSBiwTxiPi8RNtPaqHiMMOiKsTq8%2F8U%2FBNuX%2BsDje7DY2I2Usg6llK7LJZBv4K092A4o1ho3MVGo2cKxAnK6RH%2Bz1bwmBLV%2FjrwoV6oCHivbduPtziRXALnPnlZFD%2BaRl6afde6wRS2tCp3K7%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9rpkMqZZQ
I forgot about  "99p for a wheelnut "  listings on Ebay.  Its surprising that car is being broken for parts . Presumably the damage to the rear  and underside (?) are worse than it appears.  The seller is a transmissions specialist so maybe knows it can fetch more overall in parts.     But the listing also highlights other Jazz for sale with front end damage.  There may be quite a few buyers looking for bonnets.  :(

If the damage is not that bad  is it possible a bodyshop could do a better  repair job on your existing bonnet?  If you ask around body shops who do work for private clients   (rather than mostly insurance work) they may welcome a small job they can fit in between other jobs when they have a few minutes to spare. Especially if  it can be removed from the car rather than the whole car having to be shunted back and forwards taking up time and workshop space.
Also they might have contacts for obtaining replacement panels at trade price . New or used genuine Honda  ,  or for some more common cars , there might be an after market panel  available, even a choice of aftermarket versions.

Also even with brand new cars there were a few complaints that the bonnets were difficult to close. I had to drop mine  from quite a height for the catch to engage properly.  If your issue with the bonnet is only  related to this , or repairs have  suffered because of it    there is an element of "they all do that sir "   It can be  resolved or  improved by careful adjustments to the catch.

I have driven both 2000 and 3.5 litre Rover P6. Both great cars for their time.  But if I were looking for a classic car I would  prefer a P5  . As JB says more a Gentleman's club .

The reason why it is recommended to close the bonnet by dropping it by about 1ft is that the metal is so thin that it can be damaged if the bonnet is lowered and then pushed to lock it.
