Changing to Fit Xenon headlight possible?
« on: January 30, 2025, 01:51:11 AM »
Good Day, I have just joined today and searched the forum but can't find the answer so apologies if this has been covered before.

Is it possible to replace the halogen headlights with the imported Fit xenon headlights? Has anybody done this and can confirm they fit 100%?

Also, does the xenon headlight have the built in headlight height adjustment motors? This would be needed for them to be legal.

I understand the wiring would be different but I know how to fix that as there is a workaround, I did this when upgrading my BMW to xenon.
Many thanks

If the original spec isn't HID then fitting them is a MOT fail
Let's be careful out there !

@kremmen, sorry but not so, you can change your headlights as long as they meet the regulations. You just have to inform the insurance of the modification.

It looks like it is possible :

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/aftermarket-hid-headlamps/aftermarket-hid-headlamps

but I've read so many MOT failures probably because of what is required in the above article
Let's be careful out there !

Hi.
If you have any issues with insurance at all then please feel free to drop me a line (subject to them being road legal obviously).
Regards,
Dan.

@kremmen, yes that is the regulation I previously looked at for the headlight upgrade when I did it for my BMW X3, conversion from Halogen to Xenon. I found a way to bypass the CAN bus issues and it worked, xenon headlights were an option the previous owner had not selected and I was able to buy genuine brand new OEM xenon headlights for £300 each, bargin. I was interested to find out if the imported jazz version had the self leveling motors in the headlight and then I could sort the headlight cleaning by teeing into the existing windscreen system and adding a spray nozzle for each headlight. I have upgraded the halogen bulb to Osrams and the beam colour is much better but I live in the countryside and spend a lot of time on unlit rural roads and the glow worm headlights are not good. A car with LED's behind me generates a shadow of my own car in front of me on the road which isn't good.
