Damned Seagulls!
« on: April 01, 2021, 07:51:14 AM »
The seagulls around here use my new Jazz for target practice. Usually I use a damp Brillo pad and washing up liquid to remove this dried on poo but I’ve found a plastic pan scrubber is just as effective and causes less damage to the paintwork.
What do others use?

I live in a seagull colony (complex of flats by the sea - birds think they are cliffs). I try to remove the poo before it gets a chance to dry, but Bug and Tar remover work well if I am too late. If you leave it, it stains the Honda paintwork.
Now the cherries are coming into season, the purple poo from the myriad of smaller birds becomes a real issue. At least it blends in better with the darker paintwork!

I find that whenever I wash my car, the local birds use it as target practice! Even though we're 45 miles from the sea, we have a resident group of seagulls, and they are a pain. Noisy too.

In my experience the best removal method is to soak it first. Then put a very damp/wet cloth, or kitchen towel at a push, and keep it damp. Within a few minutes, the matter will have rehydrated and just wipe off easily.

Leaving damp paper towel on a helment visor works well for getting rid of flies too. That said, there are a lot less flies about these days. Not a good sign for the environment.

;D Fair point. That said though, I wouldn't be surprised if someone thought it was a good idea!

I had a bird bombardment and found a tip: Try WD40- I did and it worked!

Must be the only thing WD40 is good for.
I use one of those waterless wash wax sprays. Works well.

A plastic pan scrubber is OK on glass but I would never use one on paint
Let's be careful out there !

I posted on the MK 4 forum a few months ago, about the seagull dump that I got on one of the rear door windows. They are tinted glass, and I soaked the poo many times in soapy water which had no effect, and I finally resorted to using a plastic credit card. Big mistake. What I didn’t realise, was that the tinting for the glass, seems to be applied to the outside. This has left me with noticeable scratches at the top of the window, which to all intense and purposes, looks like someone has tried to gain illegal entry. Unless someone can suggest a remedy, perhaps a sympathetic transfer in that corner, may disguise it!

I've noticed the privacy glass isn't actually tinted glass but does have some surface treatment instead

It doesn't clean as easily and feels different, poor quality

... and yes, don't scrub the privacy glass
