How to get audio unlock code for free?
« on: December 24, 2017, 02:21:03 PM »
I do not have a code for the car audio and this means if I disconnect a battery for whatever reason this will be gone. Is there any way to get that code for free?

Ask TG very nicely. Given his expertise I think a contribution towards what ever he suggests might be nice.

Post your eight digit code from display (hold first and last preset button down while powering on I think, that's preset 1 & 6 for a standard Jazz/Fit) plus VIN# and be nice & helpful to others.  Sometimes you might find the five digit security code in the glovebox if it's not in your handbook.

Thank you, TG. That is very kind of you.
I held first and last button down while powering radio on (with both running engine and power-on only) but all I was able to get is a 'DIAG' message on radio display. It may be because my audio is not locked yet - manipulations with the battery are yet to be done. Is there a way to get the serial number from an unlocked radio?

I just held in digits 1 and 6 on the radio with the unit off, when you power up it gives you a radio code.
Take this or in my case a photo of it together with your driving licence and the reg document to your local Honda dealer and they gave me the code for free.

Obviously  make a note of it because no doubt they will be a bit miffed if you keep asking for it when needed.

The Mk1 Jazz does not have a radio code because the radio is built into the dashboard and is impossible to steal. When I changed my battery the only thing I had to reset was the auto close drivers window.  I don't know if the Mk2 is the same.

Dear TG,
The battery seemed to have an issue during this winter period so I had to disconnect it and charge. Now the radio shows the serial number and asks for the code.
VIN - JHM GP1 850 DS2 022 91
Radio s/n 210 029 85
(I splitted those numbers in space-separated tirades so it's easier to read them)
Many thanks and happy new year.

Dear TG,

No need to disconnect battery to charge it,  I have a batterytender SAE fused plug permanently on my cars and motorbike batteries - I use a long batterytender extension lead to reach top of our drive and leave charger in the garage.

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Hm... would it look right if you ignore spaces?

JHMGP1850DS202291 JHM says it is made in Japan, but the next group (GP1 in your number) is normally GD*, GE* or GK*.  Your number returns as a 1983 Jazz.
This model here!

Hm... believe it or not but:
1. https://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Honda says it's Jazz 2013
2. I checked VIN numbers at V5 form, under windscreen and front left door - they are all the same
3. I did not notice any signs of tampering anywhere to avoid doubts.
Are you definitely sure the VIN is not correct?

Between posting the photo, and you replying, I too visited that site and got the same info you did. Other VIN decoders didn't recognise the code. If it is on your V5 and below the windscreen it it right. Don't worry about it. You learn something new every day!

Well that's a first, the program has generated all these as potential unlock codes!  You can ignore the one with 7 & 8 in it unless the Insight has those preset keys.  Maybe they all work, maybe only one works....
