No more Accord for the UK
« on: October 19, 2014, 06:36:25 PM »
From the Honda Karma forum:

Quote
Honda UK will discontinue the importation of the Accord Saloon and Accord Tourer models following the final factory production in early 2015. (Final arrivals will be approximately May 2015).

Not surprising - this sector is rapidly shrinking as buyers move towards crossover SUVs and German premium brands. The Renault Laguna is no longer imported, the new Ford Mondeo is now twined with a US model (although there are other reasons behind that) and the future of the UK-made Toyota Avensis is in doubt.

And, of course, Nissan moved out of medium saloon production when they discontinued the Primera. It worked for them with the Qashqai and Juke crossovers.

People seem to prefer the easier access and high up riding position.
You can see the residuals of these low type Sedans, hatchback and estates falling. Avensis are cheap as chips.

Citreon C5 will be going too I think.  It was only being made in Opel factory on a short term basis.

The other negative for the Accord was the cost, OK so it'll probably last for ever, but the high initial cost would put off many buyers and lease companies too?
It's a shame as it's work for the Swindon factory and it's suppliers, I wonder what they will be building in it's place?

So it's official:

Quote
Slow-selling Honda Accord is officially dropped in the UK, with no replacement expected.....

....Citing a reduced market demand for the Accord in this country, Honda says it is "focusing on what the customer wants, which is the C-segment, crossover and SUV market."

Our other car is a '64 plate Accord which we got a massive discount.

We were actually looking at getting a Qashqai but ended with the Honda due to my preference with the service team at my local dealership.

Although the Accord is nice, i wouldnt have paid full price for it, and we've only been able to get 30mpg (mainly city driving) which is a bit disappointing if i'm honest.
