If you do carry a spare fob battery also carry a suitable coin or tool to prise open the 2 halves.

On a Mk4 remote, you can easily use the emergency key to lever the two halves apart, it fits in between the 2 protrusions.

Thanks

Too late, just replaced the other battery as well. :)

This 'other' battery was dedactivated in Sep 21, brought into life in late Aug 22 and after each journey is deactivated.

Even so, that one was in the dumps as well, only a fraction above the other one.

So for me I reckon 2 years max, but given how easy they are to change I may do them every 18 months. Depends whether my Duracells hold charge longer than the original Panasonics.
Let's be careful out there !

I use the physical key (that detaches from the fob)  to separate the two faces of the fob

I assume that changing the battery doesn't cause the fob to 'lose' any data? I seem to recall that years' ago, if you didn't replace the battery fast enough, it would become unusable and only a dealer could reprogram it - at enormous expense of course.

I changed both mine without issue. Both working.

Well, I had one issue, on the first one I forgot to take the sticker off the back of the Duracell.

What I found when I did was that when you push the new battery into the slot the red light flashes twice. No red light, don't clip it back together, check.
Let's be careful out there !

The dealer we used to use said "you'll be having the premium service?" in a very matter of fact, assumptive way by a young lady service advisor.

I asked what that was and basically it was a container of top up oil in a case! For £32!! I said the car doesn't use any oil, so no thanks.   She then had a right grumpy face.

On the next desk, a bloke was agreeing to it.  When the service advisor went away to get something he then had a right moan about it.   I thought, what a great way to hack off your customers.   Dealers don't care, they just want to get as much out of you as they can.

The dealer you used to use was/is an example of how not to do it.
The Honda dealer in my hometown has really made a name for itself in terms of top service.
We (and not only us) are very happy with their way of working and 'customer treatment'

The chrysler/jeep dealer  near me used to try things on like that.  The site is now a drive through McDonalds!

With my mk1 SE Jazz a 1 litre of top up oil and the balance of screenwash was always left in a plastic bag in the boot, this was complimentary although I may have been charged for it via some concealment in the invoice  :D

My dealer always gives the car a good wash as part of the service and sometimes runs a vacuum cleaner over the carpet. If there's a charge it must be added to the bill sent to Honda under the 5 year service plan.

I do, however, have to pay for MoTs (when the vehicle reaches the required age) as the vehicle is taken elsewhere for this to be done.

I always had a good wash and vac with services but they stopped during lockdowns. Remains to be seen if this  is the "new normal".

My dealer gives it a good wash & vac the inside of the car but not the boot area which they tell me beforehand will not be done.

My car is always spotless so I ask them not to wash it as they can't achieve my level :)
