Post by: MRCLICKCLICK on February 12, 2024, 12:05:12 PM
Hi All - my rear wiper blade on my Crosstar is giving up the ghost - anybody had to replace theirs yet - if so - get one from Honda, get them to replace , Halfords - or anybody else. is it simple to replace?

£20.99 at local Honda dealer. Tight fit as it just slides out. Got one of service staff to do it for me.
Front large one is same price. Easier to fit myself as it has a catch on to press to release it.

I don't know if it's possible but on my Civic 9G I changed from Honda OEM to Bosch Aerotwins and found them far superior

Checked for info.

Halfords - Bosch rear wiper £7.77 + £5 fit
Bosch Aerotwin- front driver £15.42 + £5 fit
               Bosch Aerotwin - front passenger £10.55 + £5 fit

I would assume if full set fitted it would be £5 fit, anyone know?

My 2021 Crosstar shed the rubber blade off its rear wiper a month ago. Went to Halfords and bought a Bosch H306 for £8.49. Dead easy to fit.

I usually always buy Honda Original Parts, but after reading the comments on here have ordered the Bosch H306 from Amazon, £6.14 plus free delivery from Amazon Prime. Arrives tomorrow, so just need to work out how to fit it. I’m sure I’ll be fine .

If you type in the reg no on their site, they have the option to price up the 'we fit' service.

Eurocarparts used to be a good source for car spares but having just checked, they want £10.39 for the Bosch H306. There does seem to be a big variation in wiper blade prices.

I think Bosch now have their blades  (and some other stuff) made in China.  Its still genuine Bosch, made to their standards  ,but means they can  give large buyers such as Amazon a big discount.

Other retailers may not get such a good deal from Bosch, or use the Bosch reputation to increase their own profit margin.

Had my Crosstar in for second service yesterday, told me back wiper was split and offered one for £20 with free fitting. I declined and ordered the Bosch version from Amazon for £6 fitted myself just followed instruction on box, no problem  :)

2 years 2 months old wipers changed for Bosch from Halfords - £33.74 DIY, awkward with rear until right angle to push on figured out.

Added - existing blades just starting to show a little less efficiency, new Bosch perfect and also very quiet - probably indication of hardening rubber on originals.

I fitted Bosch Aero to my 2012 Jazz five years ago  - still like new.
(Condition them yearly by cleaning with paper towel soaked in WD40)

It must be prophetic. Checked my wipers  prior to a long trip. Looked ok  . Another  1000 miles the rear wiper was split.
If thats Japanese made OE quality after 2.5 years , 20K miles, I 'm willing to risk trying another blade maker
  :P

... after 2.5 years ...
I'm awfully sorry but I never ever had wiper blades lasting longer than one season!

Pray, your Lordship, let us mere mortals be partial of the brand of your everlasting wipers!

Hmmm...
A year has 4 seasons. In your case that would mean that you replace all your wiper blades four times a year? :o

Replacing the blades on mine earlier this week, some nice lady getting in her car leant on the horn, made me jump and dropped the arm onto the window screen…..bugger cracked!
Hence a trip to auto glass for replacement today, not a quick job, 2 1/2 hours to replace and calibrate.
So be careful  :-)

Thats my latest get rich quick venture ,still under development  -  " VIRAL" brand   (Voltemores  indestructible rubber accessories Ltd) Lifetime guarantee, excluding damage from rainwater, frost, road grit and sun  ;D

I tend to keep a cars for a long time, 14 years for my Yaris, 11 years for a Corsa  etc and although I have often changed front wipers   I dont recall having to replace rear wipers more than once,  or twice at most per car.

Perhaps I have been too critical.  30 months may be a fair lifespan, especially as the  Jazz seems to attract more than its fair share of dirt to its tailgate.   But my first reaction was " already?"    Maybe I was annoyed as the split was not at the  delicate wiping edge   but where it attaches to the arm, which didnt need to be such thin rubber.    If Honda ones need replacing this often  I might as well pay £6 or so for Bosch  than £20 for Honda.

On the plus side the original front wipers are still going strong, with no sign of needing replacement just yet.   I think cleaning the rubber every so often can help restore or delay any  smearing ,squeaking etc that might  otherwise prompt early replacement.  I also take care they dont get damaged stuck in ice  . If it rains I do tend to fiddle with wiper speeds, intermittent delays, washers etc to ensure they are not running on a  dry screen or faster than they really need.

Oh no, I must confess I did chuckle on reading this, at the same time I would be really pi**ed off if I had done that. Hope your repair is ok

Even though I am not Scotts, or from Yorkshire, I have been known to economise with the rear wiper blade. If I need to renew one of the front blades, I save the old blade which is usually only split at the end, and slide the rubber out of its housing. I then chop out the middle section, and voilà, I have a usable blade for the rear. Good at speeds up to 10 mph!

Another prophetic post !  I'm in eastern europe  at present trying to find a  replacement rear wiper. If all else fails  it looks to be quite easy to replace just the rubber part  using a bit of ingenuity and a new donor front blade  that only costs £1.09  :o . The quality doesnt matter , it  would only be in service for about 3 days  (which may be dry anyway)  until I can get  a proper replacement in the UK.

Being half Scottish I also looked into the price of replacement Bosch front blades . I cant find AR15U or AR 26U.     But they do sell Bosch Aero Eco   blades   . The 15 " size was on special offer   (I think they had over stocked)   £2.18  :o   -genuine Bosch .  The 26"  size aero eco  was  a more realistic  £8   . These would fit.

But I did some research and decided against them.       The eco blades have  a variety of universal fittings that can look a bit clunky.  Also Bosch themselves admit the eco blades use  lesser rubber technology ,and graphite coating  , which have a shorter service life and lower performance than aero twins. Interesting that other similar priced brands  such as Valeo still brag about a graphite coating.    I found aero twins for about £12, but not with the correct fitting.   :(

Here is the info given by Bosch.

https://www.boschaftermarket.com/xrm/media/images/parts/xx_pdfs_7/mkw_wba_handelsfolder_pkw_baukasten_2018_en_79089_1808567_en.pdf

Update. I have done the temporary fix  by re rubbering   . The replacement rubber was virtually identical in profile and I reused the existing stainless steel side strip springs.    Quite easy  and a secure fit.    But I  will get a proper replacement asap. Brings back memories of my younger days when it was common to buy replacement rubbers rather than a whole new blade.

Just fitted a full set of Bosch Aero Twins.  Excellent.  Easy to fit.  As I'm from Yorkshire, I did wrestle with my conscience a bit over t'cost, but decided t'borrow t'money from t'missus, so that problem went away, I dare say.

Happliy living in Sussex these days - 19 years now.  Still finding it hard to part with money, but the feeling seems to be easing.   :-[
