Gearbox oil change
« on: October 16, 2015, 07:43:27 PM »
I understand the gearbox oil should be changed at 75k miles or 8 yrs. Can anyone advise on the process to do so, and whether it can be done easily on a driveway.

Thanks, looks like it could be difficult to access without a ramp as the car needs to be level when refilled?

Do you mean car hoist?

I think the only way to access the fill bolt is in the direction shown in the pic, otherwise the engine cross member is in the way.

I have 4 jack stands and a pair of ramps. I drive onto the ramps and then jack from the engine cross member onto axel stands, then jack the rear onto axel stands using the rear towing hook. Refilling would be done using a funnel attached to a piece of hose snaked down from the engine bay to the fill hole.

First time I tried it with socket but I found the transmission housing was in the way (its times like these I wish I had an auto box). I've since got a set of deep offset spanners that should work. I just haven't got around to doing it yet.
