Fan noise
« on: March 13, 2012, 08:45:11 PM »
Hi all, first post. Had my 58 plate jazz for six months. Has anyone noticed that a fan/motor jumps in and out regardless of whether the engine is hot or cold. It? Must be drawing a significant amount of power as the headlights dip for a second until the alternator kicks in with more power. My first thoughts were the radiator fan, this could be the case, but it seems to operate at any time? Any info would be great. Thanks Gary

It's the electric fan for the engine. Perfectly normal but you are  right to observe it is quite a bit noisier than a lot of cars and yes our headlights dipped momentarily,

Why would it come on if engine is cold? The whole point of a fan is to cool radiator whilst car is stationary or moving slowly. Seems daft to me!  ???

With it being a EX it will have climate control.. so if your cabin is getting above your stated temperature, (easy when you have a car full) the air con will kick in and you will hear the condensor fan kicking... not the radiator fan....  ;)

Hi all. Think Gaz has solved the problem. Didn't realise it had a condenser fan. What a dipstick!!! Modern technology. Don't you just love it. Thanks for all your replies.  :D
