Jazz still in warranty until May then going into used car warranty whatever that means ? However need to replace pads and was wondering if I fit Honda pads and get a local mechanic to fit will it void the warranty? Ty.

I can't answer your question re warranty, but I'm just wondering why you need to change the pads on a 3 year old car.
How many miles has the car done?
I usually change at around 3 years old with circa 30k miles on the clock and have never had to change pads on any of the 4 Jazz cars I have had.

When my warranty ran out a year ago, the dealer did an MOT for £35 in conjunction with a service (5 year plan), and then offered continuing roadside assistance cover (AA) for a year. I have just done the same again after 4 years. There was no mention of used car warranty. Brake pads OK after 40,000 miles, with front marked "50" , % I assume.

I am pretty sure you can get an extension of the new car warranty but you have to pay for this. The used car warranty is what Honda offer on all their approved used cars that are out of the manufacturers warranty period. Sometimes there is an overlap. My 2013 Jazz was just under 3 years old so I was covered by the manufacturers warranty for 6 months (iirc) then it merged into a used car warranty for the remaining 6 months.

This is my 3rd jazz and have never replaced the pads, this one has only done 21000 but did not have it the first year so could have been a heavy footed driver on the brakes I guess. Think I want 2nd opinion before change.

Rang the dealer for clarification, got to pay 400 for one year extra warranty or 700 for 2 years but after a bit of digging asking the right questions offered me free breakdown for a year as I have my car serviced with them. Not interested in the warranty of course at that price.

FWIW when I looked at Honda's used vehicle warranty there was clear cover for mechanical problems but no mention of cover for the electrical / electronic problems which are the main source of unreliability in recent vehicles.

I'm thinking my Jazz is still on the original brake pads at 105,000 miles . . . . . . . . off to check invoices

I've just had the 2 year service done on my Jazz at about 12,500 miles they've been assessed as 20% worn, that's a mixture of in town & open roads. I've noticed on the latest Jazz that the pads seems to initially grab the discs sharply when you apply them, even if you are gentle on the pedal, they are good strong brakes though and the pads bite well.

I find that is the case with my Mk 1. No idea what pads are on it. They were on when I bought the car, and I cannot find a receipt for them having been changed.

So maybe they are right, going to get 2nd opinion. Assuming that they would have been Honda pads fitted from new I might be better fitting another make, the warranty runs out in May so not 100% sure how it affects if fitting different manufacturer.

can you see the pads through the holes in the wheels? If you can, you should be able to see for yourself how much friction material is left on them, it's the layer that pushes onto the disc, there only needs to be enough material on them to last till May, then you can get whatever pads you want fitted by anyone you want without worrying about the warranty. you can tell when they actually wear out because they will make a racket when applied.
Honda fixed price for a set of brake pads supplied and fitted is £131, the last set I had fitted, (not Honda pads) at an independent garage (about 7 years ago) they were £75, so its not going to cost you crazy money if you decide to go to a Honda dealer for peace of mind over the warranty.

Many thanks. It is dependant on how much pad is left and would it last up to May, if so then an independent garage is the option. Would however still tend to want Honda pads unless anyone else knows of another good non-Honda pad. Does anyone know what an independent would charge today. Many thanks.
