charging battery on models with idle stop
« on: November 11, 2017, 08:39:17 PM »
I like to give the battery an overnight trickle charge if I have been doing a few short trips and more night use.I use a charger I have had for years, it has a meter to show charging rate, usually dropping down from a start of 3  amps down to 1 amp after overnight charge.
the jazz does not have idle stop.
however we also have a Mk7 golf which does have idle stop, and I have been told not to use my existing charger for this car as it will damage the battery. It seems there are special chargers for vehicles with idle stop,as the battery is a different kettle of fish. Needless to say chargers for idle stop batteries are a lot dearer than standard items Is this true or another excuse to charge more for special equipment.
