Non-iridium spark plug alternatives for 1.5L engine
« on: October 04, 2017, 11:08:59 PM »
Here in NZ everything seems ridiculously overpriced compared to the US. Spark plugs included. I see the 2003 1.5liter fit calls for iridium spark plugs (ngk izfr6k13)...are there any "standard" alternatives that could fit/ work in the fit? It's a cheap car with heaps of kms on it. I dont feel like dumping 120$ into it for 4 spark plugs...
Cheers!

That plug (NGK 6774) is also in the Civic & Accord and sells for around £12 each in the UK.  There is no harm in replacing with a shorter life standard set of plugs, but check the condition of the existing long life iridium ones first as they are probably good for a lot longer than you expect.

The standard Denso K20TT at £10 for a set of 4 (NZ$20) is suitable as it matches the 14mm/19mm/16mm thread/reach/hex at required spec.  It's such a popular plug your should have no trouble finding them at your local parts supplier.

Thanks for the tips. The car has 270k km on it, and i can notice engine hesitation, so is time for new plugs i think. Supercheap NZ's website has bosch fr7dpp30x plugs listed for the car. Anyone have any experience with these? They're only 40$ for 4.

Also has there ever been a consensus or summary of the ik20 vs ik22 debate i keep seeing?

I use NKG BKR6E-11 spark plugs, in my 2006 1.2 Jazz, and they are excellent. My engine uses 8 plugs, and for an old engine I was not lashing out on 8 iridium plugs.

yeah, I've used the NGK BKR6E-11 on a 1.3L JDM Fit before and they've worked well, but those are what's specified by Honda for that engine.  Are they dimensionally the same as the ones below for the 1.5?

As far as I know, Honda specs these 2 iridium plugs for the 1.5L engine
NGK IZFR6K13
Denso SKJ20DR-M13

I looked on the Supercheap Autos site you referred to and it only shows the Fit with the 1.3 engine. It does show the 2002 Jazz with the 1.5 engine and a list of suitable Iridium plugs. I couldn't find any reference to the plugs you found for either the Fit or Jazz.

Unfortunately the 1.5 engine was never available in the UK market so unable to help

Try contacting NGK or DENSO

just an update for others.  I ended up using the BKR6E-11? the standard NGK plugs that are recommended on the 1.3L.  Seems to be going alright for a while now
