they did get one advertising quote in -

You can get 'petrol stabilisers' (used in some motorbike stored over winter and in snowmobiles in the summer). https://www.wynns.eu/product/fuel-stabilizer/ Claimed to be good for 12 months.

It is not good to leave fuel tanks empty and is preferable to leave them full, I don't use fuel stabiliser, I just use redex in my motorbikes and lawnmower, and periodically in our cars. Since using Redex I have never had a problem and bikes or mower start easily after a long layup - even without adding fresh petrol.

Interesting how much is lost. I buy a gallon of unleaded, once a year, for the lawn mower. It is stored in a plastic can and the mower is topped up as required. Only takes about a litre. I leave the fuel in the mower over winter and it always starts without problems. In the spring, I tip what is left in the can into the car and buy a gallon fresh.
