The July issue also carries a group test of the ES-T against the Golf 2.0 TDi SE (109bhp), Ford Focus Econectic and Renault Megane diesel.

The Insight came second behind the Golf (no suprise!) so not the hybrid-bashing I was expecting. They didn't though point out the significance of the Insight being petrol (cheaper fuel) and the others in the test being manual cars which should in theory offer better mpg over a CVT.
