chrisv is right Honda stopped fitting them on some Mk2 cvt models but they are fitted on the Mk3. I use the down paddle quite a lot for deceleration and on steep hills, I would not want to have auto without paddles.
You can use the throttle to effectively change up on the Mk3 and S Sport mode gives more engine braking but is not as effective as the downshift paddle
I do not really do not use the up paddle very much the cvt works well but I like to use the down paddle when I need more control.
The Alfa156 semi automatic had years ago had paddles and I found them great as well.
