Rear Parcel Shelf Replacement
« on: September 26, 2023, 06:11:39 PM »
I have noticed two cracks on my parcel shelf. I have tried to repair them with super glue but it looks messy. My question is has anyone tried a non genuine parcel shelf. I have seen some advertised on the internet which are much cheaper but the clips to attach it look slightly different in shape to the genuine Honda part.

Repair on the underneath using glue and gaffer tape..then paint underneath with dark grey paint.

If damage is constantly visible maybe glue a new sheet of fabric over the entire shelf  ,Black/dark grey felt may be suitable, or you may find a more suitable closer match from an automotive retrimming specialist.
You may even find an automotive upholstery specialist on an industrial estate near you  that can do the whole  job for you cheaper than a replacement shelf.  (or even the cost of  buying material and spray glue to DIY)

If you want a used Honda original shelf  try one of the many on line used parts search sites . Enter what you need  on the site and breakers yards who are breaking a jazz, but havnt bothered listing its  parcel shelf for sale, may contact you with their prices.

Keep repairing try JB weld a two pack plastic adhesive, reinforce what's ever around thin wood aluminium or plastic if required.

JB weld looks interesting. Have ordered some on line and will give this a try. Thanks for all the replies. So glad I have joined the forum.

If the cracks are getting longer, try drilling a small hole at the end of the crack that's growing. Might slow or stop fatigue failure. Have you asked Honda about the problem? Presume you don't put massive loads on shelf?

Bought it used recently and unfortunately did not notice the cracks. The rest of the parce shelf is in good clean condition.

Strange.  Many cars have parcel shelves moulded from soft fibres, a bit  like papier  mache . If you have had a bad experience with a Used genuine honda one cracking, maybe an aftermarket one will ,perversely, be better.

I'd persevere with repairs  . I'd only buy an aftermarket one if its  custom made for your model of  Jazz, and not just some generic 'one size fits all'  type.   If it doesnt fit then its not as described and you   may be able to get your money back. -Easier if its despatched from the UK, not delivered direct from China.   If all else fails you may be able to swop clips and things from the original to  the aftermarket one.
