CVT Oil change
« on: July 05, 2019, 11:24:06 AM »
Hi all, recently purchased Jazz EX cvt.  I have been reading about the CVT oil change has been altered by Honda to be done every 25,000 miles.  Looks like easy job to do but does anybody know how many litres I would need.  The Honda oil is specified for this transmission but of course being Honda very expensive !!!!  Any advice would be appreciated.

I think you will find that the consensus on this site is to only use the Honda specified oil in this particular case.

Thanks for your comment, I would not do anything else after investing over 10 grand in the car.  My real query is does anyone know how much oil I would need to change it.

According to the handbook page 583.
3.4 litres of Honda HCF-2 transmission fluid.

Honda HCF-2 transmission fluid.

The correct oil for a CVT is Honda CVT-F.

CVT-F was used up to 2012 and replaced by the newer HCF-2 from 2013, as far as my research has shown.

I didn't take note of the model year, I stand corrected.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the HCF-2 pretty much replaces the CVT-F and can be used for earlier CVT boxes as well as the ones it was specced for.

According to the spec. I wouldn't mix them.

"4 litres of hcf-2 cvt fluid for Honda second generation cvt gearboxes new shape jazz & hrv this fluid is not compatible with generation 1cvt-f."

You would have to flush the box out with HCF-2 first, before refilling, but I believe it is compatible in operation.

If cvt fluid costs £55  a container just get Honda to do it as last time it was £70 to change

HCF-2 I believe IS NOT backwards compatible...
