Title: User manuals downloadable from Honda UK.
Post by: Skyrider on July 31, 2018, 09:39:46 AM
I have just noticed that car user manuals are available for download on the Honda UK website.

I've never come across those previously. Thanks for finding  - my HR-V is also there. It's a lot easier if sitting at a computer to browse a PDF file to check something than having to get the big paperweight out of the glovebox.

You keep the manual in your glove box?  :o  Mines in house. Just taking up useable space in glovebox... but now there is no reason to keep it in the car  :D

2018 version doesn't work it seems. 2017 does.

I have found the same, the 2018 download reports corrupted when an open attempt is made. The 2017 one works.

UPDATE !

I have reported this to Honda UK and they now know there is a problem with the 2018 Jazz download and are working on it. They say it will take a few days to fix.

It is surprising that a company like Honda can upload a corrupt PDF file, I am a software developer and if I did not test things like this before going live my clients would not be my clients for much longer!

They say it will take a few days to fix, they should at least remove the link to the broken 2018 file and perhaps replace with a message "2018 Manual coming soon" so they can re-upload the PDF once they have fixed it.

I hope they put more attention to detail into designing and building their cars?  ;D

A few days, it is already over a week since I told them about the corrupted file. Now there's a surprise. :-)

It doesn't affect me but I hope all those navigation system update files are not corrupted.

Not really. I've long said that hardware manufacturers don't understand software. To them software is of secondary importance. The infotainment system is a typical example of this. Palmed off on Pioneer, probably with a limited spec and no oversight. Panasonic in turn saw the software as unimportant and anyway probably weren't being paid very much by Honda because they didn't care.

I'm quite surprised Honda even came up with the idea of making the manuals available online. It took them at least a decade to provide a half-way decent web site. I can imagine the meeting where it was discussed and the management attitude was probably a big sigh followed by "Oh well, if we must I suppose we must, but don't take all day about it".

They still haven't tumbled to the revolutionary idea of pre-loading the relevant manual onto the Android tablet they've stuck on the fascia. They could even tailor it to that particular model, ie leave out all the bits relevant to features that aren't fitted. A searchable soft copy available in the car would make it much easier to find the relevant bit in the 500+ pages, rather than thumbing through the complex hard copy using it's inadequate index.

Now you're just being silly :)

That would actually make that touchscreen thingie useful! Would Honda want that?  ;D

More to the point, could one manually load the file plus a PDF reader? Android has the capability if it hasn't been crippled. I always have a flash drive with music plugged in so that could also hold handbook.

It could also include eReader software. With a text to voice option :)

It looks like a rushed copy with odd formatting, but at least it opens.

Then add the facility to ask the manual a question such as "How do I reset the TPMS?".

For safety reasons, all this functionality could only be allowed to work with the handbrake applied.  They could also add a small printer so that we could get hard copies ::).  It would probably only add another £3K to the price of the car and make the infotainment system even more problematic.

You can already teather it to your phone and browse the Internet.  Personally I would rather go back indoors and use my PC.

I downloaded the 2018 manual, then used this service https://pdfresizer.com to crop it to remove all the crop marks, its fine now.

It removes all crop marks ok but unfortunately it  removes all the clickable links as well  :(

So it does, I hadn't noticed that as I just use the search option to find things, perhaps Honda will put another version up that does not have the crop marks, but does have the links?

Honda would be daft not to monitor forums for feedback, hopefully they will get the message.

I doubt it. My experience, as someone who has owned Hondas for nearly 20 years now, is that their customer care is going downhill. And I doubt they even know this forum exists. From the bottom of the web page:

'Copyright ©2007-2018 Clubjazz

And I'd be flat-out surprised if anyone at Honda other than the engineers even knew that such forums existed or that their customers use them.
