Honda remains involved with Red Bull as an engine supplier.
« on: January 28, 2022, 04:17:32 PM »
Honda will continue to supply engines to Red Bull Racing, the Formula 1 team of world champion Max Verstappen, in the coming years. The Japanese manufacturer is therefore deviating from the previously made plans to withdraw from the sport.

"We now have a completely different solution than we had in mind before," Red Bull chief executive Helmut Marko told Autorevenue. "The engines will be built in Japan until 2025. We don't get involved at all."

Honda announced last winter that it would retire as an engine supplier after three years. The Japanese company thought Formula 1 no longer fit in with the future vision, after which Red Bull partly took over the construction of the engine.

Verstappen's racing stable built its own factory for the power sources at the headquarters in Milton Keynes, England. Until 2025, Red Bull employees only have to deal with the engine settings.

According to Marko, the final details of the collaboration have yet to be discussed. What is certain is that Honda's changed plans will give Red Bull the space to get started with the new engine before 2026. In that year, new engine regulations will come into effect.

It is especially important for Honda - as for all other manufacturers - to supply a well-prepared engine this season. The engines are in fact 'frozen', which means that hardly any development is allowed. With the specification of 2022, Verstappen's team will have to do it largely until 2025.

'Success has led to reconsideration'
Like parent team Red Bull, AlphaTauri will continue to receive engines from Honda. When all the details are complete, it is also expected that 'Honda' will appear on the new cars.

Honda has appeared and disappeared again in Formula 1 in the past. This happened between 1964 and 1968 and between 2006 and 2008 as an independent racing stable and also as an engine supplier to, among others, Williams, Lotus, McLaren, BAR, AlphaTauri and Red Bull.

"Due to our successes, there has been a certain rethink among the Japanese," said Marko, who expressed the hope to sign Verstappen longer with the team as soon as possible. The current contract of the Limburger runs until the end of 2023.

The new Formula 1 season will start on March 20 with the Bahrain GP. In the period before that, there are still test days: from 23 to 25 February in Barcelona and from 10 to 12 March in Bahrain.

A Dutchman (my compatriot ) with a Honda engine beats a Briton with a Mercedes engine in the last lap of the last race for the world championship and finishes as world champion.
And see the consequences... Would Honda have stayed if Max had finished second? I don't think so... and what do you think?

I think that Honda / Red Bull were the only competition Mecedes have had in the last couple of years,  Honda would be mad to walk away from such a winning collaboration - Tellingly,  as the Japanese like to work, Red Bull worked WITH Honda where McLaren always saw them selves as the chief partner and Honda as just a supplier.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot
