If you're interested, i just swapped wheels given we're now in spring.

The first one (stock rims) is with winter boots.

The second one (upgraded rims) is with summer flipflops

In my opinion it could be a great idea removing the plastic cover on the OEM to have a good looking and better appearance

Personally I don't like the full black wheels, even when I had them on the Stelvio (OEM) I found them not very classy.

Honda also claims that the fairing is needed to get extra fuel efficiency... for what it's worth

In some other topic I posted the pic of OEM wheels without fairing. Not very good looking to me.

IMHO the colour of the car may be the difference, even you are right, without plastic covers these rims are "strange"; re-colouring them in dark grey to have a star draw may be better

May I ask how much were the upgraded rims - the all alloy ones without the plastic trim.

Also do you have to remove all 4 wheel nuts of the stock alloys (whilst the car is jacked up) in order to remove the plplastic trim?

Yes no problem!
They're the original Honda ones, available as optional.
As said in other replies, Honda doesn't ask you the OEM ones back so you end up having two sets - which is exactly what i needed, so I can easily and rapidly swap between winter and summer tyres.
I paid them 800 EUR (list price is 1.120EUR), which is a bit higher than a generic wheel set (you can find good commercial ones at around 600EUR) but in this way I was sure they were perfectly fitting with the car.
It's very difficult to find 16" rims with ET50 and 6.5J width (normally they're 7J and ET45).

Regarding the other question, yes you have to remove the nuts before you can take away the plastic fairing.

Sorry if this question has been answered elsewhere but I cannot find it.

Do the plastic wheel trims on the EX alloys serve any useful purpose?  Do they, for example protrude sufficiently to protect against kerbing?

Not much protection, actually.
It's more for aerodynamic purposes, like in all "fuel saver" trims nowadays

... I've taken one trim off. I do like the looks of just the alloy, only problem is there is no centre cap. This makes it look a bit crap really. I'm guessing Honda don't do something to fit as they probably don't intend for people to remove the trims.

Prius drivers have been doing something similar removing the plastic trims on their alloy wheels, buying wheel centre caps off eBay which fit their wheels - not sure if a standard Honda wheel centre cap would fit?

FYI they only seem to make 0.1mpg difference to one driver who checked, not sure why they are fitted for such a small difference vs the cost of the trims.
