Title: Honda E spotting
Post by: Neil Ives on February 11, 2022, 11:04:54 PM
I saw my first Honda e in the wild today. It was lime green.

Only seen it on the dealer forecourt, they've never had one in the showroom when I've been there.

I didn't see my first one until last July:

...I've only seen one other since.

I used to pass the same multicoloured one (must have been a company car) regularly and usually at the Newbridge roundabout. When I was in at the dealers for my recall they had a lovely white and black one in the showroom (drool shows up clearly on white paintwork).

The only one I've seen is in my local Honda Dealer.

The genuinely shocking low range, little better than the original Nissan Leaf, was a huge own goal at a time when EVs with decent ranges were starting to become available.

That's the thing, no use for a trip to the seaside.

I'd need a return range of about 180 miles.

That's pretty much my situation. For most of my journeys a range of 100 (75 to 80 in winter by all accounts) would be more than sufficient. Visit our friends in Abergele (120 mile return trip with unreliable public chargers) and we're goosed.

Renault Zoe can do 200 miles and is cheaper. Maybe less advanced but, in the early days of EVs, range is numero uno in terms of what you want.

Just by the by, I hadn't realised that there is a huge gulf in efficiency between EVs. The early Hyundai Ionic has a 28 kwh battery but a vastly superior range to the 30 kwh Leaf. It's not something you tend to think about but it's clearly an issue.

By the time my 5 years warranty, servicing and AA cover expires and I decide to change it may be a whole new EV ball game.

I've still only ever seen one on the road. The E is a rare beast in rural Suffolk.

When I had my Crosstar serviced last July the dealer said they had sold four. The only one I've seen was their demonstrator. The range is more than enough for a 2nd car particularly for those who live in or close to the big cities. However, the price tag makes the e only attractive for those with a well-filled wallet and are tempted by the vehicle's unconventional design. I expect Honda's next EV to arrive here will be more conventional in appearance. A claimed 300 mile range which means more than 200 miles under worst conditions might get me tempted.

Saw one in scrapyard asking mega £, why bother when you can pick up import hybrid mk2.
