Year 6 service.
« on: July 17, 2022, 09:48:51 PM »
So, my Mk. 4 has recently arrived, and I am selling the Mk. 3 privately. It had the 5 year servicing plan in place, when I bought it in 2018. It’s a 2016 model. All I have spent on it, is rear brake pads,..£17..., and 3 wiper blades. I though that I would advertise it, as having a full 6 year Honda servicing history, and phoned my main dealer to check the price of the minor service, or just an oil and filter change.

It was £330 for the minor service, which includes brake fluid change, or £230 for an oil and filter change.

£230 for an oil and filter change!!!...Is it me, or what!  >:(

But how much more would you add to the price by getting it done?

The “value added” bit was not my immediate thought. I was just stunned by the cost of the oil / filter change.

£230 for an oil and filter change is mind boggling. Just for context I follow a young chap on You Tube with his "High Peak Autos" Channel (he is a used car dealer).

His last video featured a Jag - the one based on the Ford Mondeo platform - forget the actual model. He gets it spruced up and he always gives you a breakdown of what his local mechanic charges him. The oil and filter change was £70.

Are Honda trying to get rid of their servicing operation? Are they, on the other hand, trying to get people to sign up to service plans?

I don't think a Honda 'service' only covers oil and filter.

There will be a longer list of things they do depending on level of service required. Should be in the service book.
Let's be careful out there !

For that price I think it would include a MOT

According to my schedule the 6th year is quite a big service inc.

oil / filter
fuel filter
gearbox oil
pollen filter

of course it is the dearest ! , it's the first service lot of us have to pay for after the 5 year plan runs out, Honda know what they are doing.

My 2018 Sport will be going to a local garage when the 5 years is up.

Im thinking about buying a MK4 and part exchanging my 2016 Mk 3 before I  have to pay for a 24 month service.

@davejazz

Where are you in the country? There are significant differences in regional prices.

Also inflation is very high atm.

But as mentioned a Full Honda service history will get you your £230 back.

As they say, don't spoil it for a hapeth of tar!

depends on the age of the car and how long you intend keeping it.  At about 6 years of age  you might ,just, get back the cost of one  Honda service as a better trade in price or selling it to a private buyer.   But I doubt you would get back the extra cost of any further  Honda services .

For example  I had a Yaris from new, and sold it when it was 14 year old to 'we buy any car.' (Not the worlds best price but saves hassle )  . The car had 3 years Toyota servicing, plus 2 years rubber stamped by independent garages.  Thereafter it had no service history stamped as I either serviced it myself,(I have some experience)  Or if it fell due while I was in Eastern Europe I would get it serviced by a local garage at a fraction of the uk cost  - I could even have  used an eastern european Toyota main dealer, but didnt  -maybe they would have done the airbag recall without having to wait the 3 years it took in the UK  !  ;).

The WBAC  'inspector, merely glanced at the 5 years with stamps, making no distinction whether it was toyota or not  , but explained that he had to make a small deduction to value for it being an incomplete service history thereafter.  I cant remember how much , but it was less than the cost of just one  service by  an independent garage in the UK  , and far less than several Toyota services would have cost me over the years.
