Clock
« on: September 18, 2018, 07:27:26 PM »
Why is the clock built into the RDS radio so cr@p? Most RDS radios I have had, many older than my Jazz, set the clock automatically, using the RDS system. But not the Honda unit.
Now I know the clock on the radio only displays to the nearest minute, so even when spot on can be 59 seconds slow, but I wish it did set automatically. It wouldn't be too bad if it had a quartz regulator or was even a good timekeeper but my grandad's old wall clock was a better timekeeper than the clock in my Jazz. I have to set it about once a week. I normally set it about 30 seconds fast, and once it starts to show slow I reset it.

Yeh, mine loses about 2 minutes per month, quite irritating, I presume they're all the same, now the radio's packed up too, I just listen to CDs, can't complain really, it is 15 years old after all, runs like a cheap naafi watch, lol.

I believe the radio failing is not uncommon. It is a regulator that fails, but is easily replaced - once you get the radio out!
Honda Jazz voltage regulator.

I have always found the clock time to be spot on.
Have just ckecked the time on my Mk3 against my weather station digital clock which is radio controlled from Rugby and it was within 1 second.
Page 138 of the manual tells me, the clock is automatically updated from my phone, when connected.
Not sure whether it also updates from DAB radio.

I'll guess that DAB radio wasn't even thought of when the Mk 1 Jazz came out.

The modern radios have good clocks. Even Honda wouldn't sell a car with a cr@p clock these days, but the Mk 1's are atrocious.

It must be a random issue, ours doesn't seem to drift between changes for BST & GMT. That's the only time we have to mess about with it.

Radio on the left is mine. It says here 2002 - 2007, so perhaps yours is an updated version with the clock set from the RDS.

Ours has the later radio/cd on the right, but you still have to set the clock manually - it doesn't pick the time up from RDS.

The clock on my Volvo wasn't RDS but, like you, the only time I had to set that was at the start and finish of BST. Maybe the better clocks use a quartz movement. My Jazz probably has a pendulum hanging down the back of the dash!
