Auto headlight switch
« on: May 17, 2022, 12:44:41 PM »
Ive noticed on my 2019 SE Jazz that if I wish to turn my lights off ("0"),it automatically springs back to "Auto".
Is this normal or am I missing something.
I left for work this morning at 6.30 (not dull or overcast) so no need for headlights.
I looked at the dash board and noticed the green lights on symbol was illuminated.
Switched to the off position but they sprung back down to Auto with green lights on symbol illuminated.

That's correct, you can't turn the lights off.
If the lights are on the best you can do is to turn the sidelights on so turning the headlights off.

...Does holding it in the off position briefly help on that model?

...Must've changed it for the MK4 then. Unless it's only when stationary.

Yes it also works on the MKIII when you are stationary, but as soon as you move off, the lights come back on again (also works the same for the DRLs).

Many thanks for all your replies.
All understood.
Think I may send a letter to Honda asking why they have put a "lights off"switch on my car if it doesnt work. :)

Seems like I may have partially solved the problem with the "auto"headlights coming on when not really required.

My neighbour has a Honda Civic and in passing, said that his lights also come on when it starts raining.

I realised that there must be a sensor at the top of my windscreen which "picks up"wether it determines when to turn the lights on.

The past 3 mornings, ive wiped the dew away from the top of the windscreen and the lights do not come on anymore.

I cant seem to find a diagram in my handbook that shows which sensor it is.

I would imagine its one near the top of the cluster where the wipers dont reach to clear the dew from the screen.

Have a look at this thread:

Also be aware that the lights are linked to the wipers: if the wipers are in auto control and start operating, the lights will come on if they do more than a certain number of sweeps in a short time (can't remember the actual parameters).
