Shift From D to S Whilst Driving
« on: March 03, 2011, 04:49:54 PM »
Hi. I recently got a 2002 honda fit automatic with the D and S modes on the gear selectors. (Its not tiptronic though). I just wanted to ask if it was safe to change from D to S whilst the car was moving.

Your help will greatly be appreciated.

Yes it is,the box is designed to be used in this way.
I use the 'S' position particularly when over taking. The gear change points are moved higher up the rev range hence you get more accelaration.
Yes the engine sounds noisier but that is how it is designed to work, don't worry it still doesn't go over the red line.

Ok. Thanks for that. Now I can really drive my car to the max!!

Also Do you have anytips of raising up the km/l (a.k.a mpg estimator)? When I bought it it was at 18km/l but now its around 13km/l

Yep, like vic said and it also keeps the revs higher on the downshift too so you have power available coming out of bends & suchlike.
