E-cvt gearbox
« on: October 23, 2021, 07:26:49 AM »
Hello,

Can you please tell me, if the e-cvt gearbox is moving the car slowly forward in D mode,or backwards in
R mode, when you are not full press the brake pedal, but without the accelerator? (like in a normal automatic gearbox or normal CVT).

If it does that, the speed is like in a classic cvt?

This is very usefull in slow maneuvers and parking the car.

Thank you.

Yes, I know what you're getting at and I had the same query.

Happy to confirm that it behaves just like a torque converter auto in that you can reverse slowly on the brake pedal.

Unlike the I-Shift that cut the connection.
Let's be careful out there !

The e:CVT 'gear box' is a misnomer. it is NOT a gearbox. it is a lock up clutch that enables the ICE to connect directly to the road wheels under heavy acceleration or at higher speeds.
The 'creep', either backwards or forwards is purely by the electric motor, even if the ICE is running at the time to charge the battery.

The drive of the new Jazz is unlike anything else, there is no gearbox as we have all understood for years, it takes a lot to get your head around I know...

The simple answer is, yes, it does creep like a normal automatic.

How it does it is different to how a conventional automatic gearbox does it. It's a simulation using the electric motor.

I think what the OP was trying to get at, like me before purchase and test drive, is that single and dual clutch DSG DCT type gearboxes stop creeping as soon as you touch the brake pedal. They cut drive completely.

They are a real pain.

Let's be careful out there !
