cost of getting a new key
« on: October 19, 2021, 04:38:25 PM »
When my wife wanted to leave for work yesterday she found only one of the car's 2 keys in the place where we normally keep  them.  We have hunted high and low for the other key, but cannot find it.  Since she had the key when she drove home the security risk isn't too great.  The key might turn up.

However, does anyone know how much a new key for an 8 year old Mk 2 Jazz costs please?  (I have all the original documentation, giving the code etc.)

Thanks.

Make sure you're sitting down when you get the price.

I haven't got the exact cost to hand but it can be around 150 to 200+ from a dealer including programming.
Let's be careful out there!

I bought my Jazz second hand and annoyingly it only came with one key. I wanted a spare and managed to get a new one cut at my local Timpsons for about 60 (this was over a year ago so I might not be remembering exactly but it was roughly that).

Was that just the key or did that include programming ?

It was just for a basic key and not a FOB so no programming needed. I got a few quotes at the time and for the FOB you would definitely be looking atound 150-200 like the other poster says.

I got a key cut at Timpsons on 3 Nov 2021. It cost 70. It openened the door and started the engine but could not cancel the alarm, so test it before leaving the supplier.

To cancel the alarm the key needs to be programmed.

AFAIK Timpsons only cut the key.

To cancel the alarm the key needs to be programmed.

AFAIK Timpsons only cut the key.

I thought the chip needed to be programmed to release the immobiliser and even start the engine...

I'm sure you're right. I've read a few key cut stories but I forget the detail.

I asked at a branch of Timpsons.  The chap said Timpsons could do it, but not his branch.  He told me what branch could do it, but when he put my reg no in his computer it said "AA".   He then said that the other branch would not be able to do it,n but would send it off to the AA to do it.  Strange.
