What have they got to hide ?
Doesn't seem to me like they are hiding, if it is plain for all to see.

Personally, I trust the Chinese as much as I trust the Russians and the Americans.

You are not alone with Huwaei AA issues it seems.

The tip here is to enable USB debugging as already mentioned  :

Oh well, that really points to the phone being the problem. I did enable USB debugging but I don't know how to use it  :D

I have one myself, they are great phones :)

I’ve had several different Moto G phones in the past and they run very well.

The phone is beautiful and came with a decent battery charge so I was able to get going quickly. As you say, the phone comes with Android 10 so Android Auto is already installed. The phone carried out a few updates including Google maps. I plugged the phone into the data/USB socket in the car and everything worked; much better navigation than Garmin. Lovely jubbly! Thanks again for the tip.   :-*

I'll see if it will work wirelessly as per the tip from Roman. I don't really mind if it doesn't; keeping the phone on charge seems a good idea.

Pleased you've finally got it sorted.

I tried the wireless USB, but found it pretty undependable, ended up getting some 6 inch USB cables from Amazon which work a treat,

Yes, although after that link you showed me I could see that the phone was the problem. Thank you.

Update: Android Auto stopped working! My phone had automatically updated from Android 10 to 11. Also, I'd set the car to connect with my WiFi and allowed the car to update it's OS.

I had a search online and one suggestion was to reset the car to its factory settings. I did that. The Bluetooth pairing between car and phone took place again and AA seems to be OK now.

One frustration is that I cannot open Android Auto on the phone; it's now embedded in the operating system so doesn't have a launch icon. If AA is working on the car you can tap a setting button on the car and that opens AA on the phone where you can see some limited settings.

Google Play offers an AA version that opens on the phone screen but I don't know if it's installing a second version of the app or just adding the functionality to open the app on the phone.

I'm glad I use my USB port for a music memory stick by the sound of it.

I used to have this before the Jazz - it's a separate app, so you can use Android Auto on the phone screen in a phone mount in a car that doesn't have a main screen/Android Auto function.

I believe they are dropping it though unfortunately in future.

I will be doing that when I don't need Android Auto.

I've downloaded some voice, (Podcast) files to my phone and AA plays them. I haven't yet tried playing music files from the phone.

Bluetooth audio will play music from the phone of course.

Although the service menu on the Jazz offers a wireless connection for Android I haven't been able to make it work yet.

TBH I have no need for anything on the AA menu. The only app I might have relayed is Google Maps but as per another thread I've hardwired in my Garmin DS61 and the Smartlink traffic on that is good.

I also find the Garmin, on dash top, is more in my line of sight whereas the centre infotainment screen - isn't.
Let's be careful out there !
