Dashcam Installation
« on: July 28, 2021, 08:02:19 PM »
I am planning on fitting the Nextbase GW322 dashcam that I previously used on my Mk3 SE. The front camera is a doddle. The rear camera cable was run through the headlining and the rubber cable conduit connecting to the hatchback door. The Mk 3 had a spare rubber plug in the hatchback door through which I ran the cable to the camera. Unfortunately, there's no spare rubber plug on the Mk4 hatchback. There's a possibility of running the cable through the hatchback window wash conduit hole, not great but it will do the job. Has anyone fitted a rear view dashcam extension to the Mk4?

I suggest you get your Honda dealer to do it.

My Rear Cam is bolted to the rear parcel shelf and the cable runs across the shelf, down behind and under the offside rear seat, down and across under the rear floor mat and up into the USB socket on the central cubby box.
If I need to take out the parcel shelf for any reason then the cable simply unplugs from the camera.
The camera needs to be towards the bottom of the screen, to ensure that it is within the wiped area of the window wiper.
I was concerned about the shock loading on the camera, if mounted to the rear screen itself and subjected to the slamming of the boot lid and of course it is easily transferred for car to car.

This is a nice idea. I'm thinking, since my parcel shelf if a flexible material and never deployed, I could try a similar cabling but to the middle headrest. This would also have the advantage of not being in my line of sight.

Some have plugged the rear dashcam straight into a boot power outlet - if you have one
Let's be careful out there !

Mounted as replacement cover behind rearview mirror
Intresting idea but camera quality and possible interference with safety camera is a question.....

I am thinking of asking santa for a garmin mini 2 dashcam  . Very small and discrete .  Anyone able to post a photo of it fitted to a Mk 4 ?

The new MG EV has: rear view mirror - power only for dash cam accessory)
Would have been good if Honda had that. Just plug in your dashcam for the power in this usb socket. It also has a 360 degree camera.

Hmm, trying to get hold of that option connector now seems to be very difficult unfortunately.

Hmm, unfortunately it looks like you need a Amazon Japan account now to order from there. I'll try to work out what sort of connector it is. Should be a standard type that I can then get hold of and make up a cable from.

If they don't ship to your country then I had to use Zenmarket.

It is a faff but worth it when it arrives.

Hello everyone! Great Place to discuss!  :)

I saw this on AliExpress. The power for the dashcam is taken from the rain sensor. I will order one a let you how it works.
