Rear view mirror removal
« on: January 30, 2018, 07:54:40 PM »
Has anybody ever removed the inner rear view mirror? I couldn't find any help from Youtube, only removal of the mirror of Civic and Accord. I assume I don't need any tools for removing it, or do I?
I would appreciate some help if someone knows how to proceed. Thank you  :)

Thanks, but unfortunately the mirror is fastened directly to the windscreen.

Then it is glued on and the only way to get it off is to  break the glue joint. This can be softened by heat. I believe that is how the windscreen fitters do it.

This is the way it should be removed from a Honda Accord

It's a little different removing it from a Civic. I would not like to destroy the mirror so I guess I have to figure it out somehow  :(

Are you certain it's glued directly to the screen? On our Jazz it is removed by lifting a clip and the mirror slips off leaving the spigot behind. The Civic re view mirror on some models is the same. I have a rear view mirror for the passenger and that is a Honda rear view mirror mounted on a 'spigot' which is glued to the screen.
Have a good look, you have to be a contortionist as you have to look upwards at the back of the mounting arm. Try a local friendly windscreen place. if you are worried about doing it.

It seems that I was a bit too scared to destroy the mirror. It turned out to be a 5 second job to remove it just like on this video:
