Rear disks grooving already
« on: January 08, 2012, 04:13:46 PM »
Jazz ES 1.4  - car went on road 24 Oct 2011 new - now has 950 miles.  Already the rear disks have light grooving on outer face - visual and fingernail test!!  Front disks perfect.  The swept area of rear disks has slight circular rusting - all the tell tale signs I have seen on every car with rear disk brakes.  Eventually the pads will stick in the calliper and promote premature wear.  WHY oh WHY do manufacturers have to fit rear disks to small family cars like the Jazz - drums last forever without all the hassle that rear disks bring  :'(

Blimey - 950 miles already!  ;)

We got our EX a couple of weeks afore you and we've done 5,240 miles!
Can't say that we've noticed anything with the rear brakes though. Everything is just hunkey-dory!  ;D

The previous Jazz, an ES, did 27,000 miles and hadn't any problems with the rear brakes either. But, the handbrake seems much more 'solid' in this one.

Some pictures would be nice so we could all see what's going on.

Anyway I've cars with drums and discs on the rear and not had a problem.

All I did was take them apart clean/inspect every year or so.

Problems arise where garages/diyer's just visually inspect the brake linings and let them wear down to the limit before doing anything.

Get it back to the dealers, its under warranty, let them sort it.

I have just turned 7000 miles on my 61 reg no uneven scoring on any discs (but will check again tomorrow).
