Title: Tyres for 1.4 ES
Post by: mikebore on October 21, 2013, 05:14:12 PM: My original Michelin Energy Savers are at 22,000 and will need replacing soon, so just looking for inputs from anyone who can compare different makes.

My tyre dealer gave me the following info on the new EU tyre labels, but unfortunately I didn't get exact tyre model:

Dunlop: Fuel rating "F", Wet grip rating "C", Noise 66dB

Goodyear: Fuel rating "B", Wet grip rating "B", Noise 68dB

Michelin: Fuel rating "C", Wet grip rating "A", Noise 68dB

So Dunlops are quietest apparently...this does interest me but interested in any real world experience on ES cars.

Tyre size is 175/65 R 15....are there any other sizes on the same rim I could consider?

Post by: mikebore on October 21, 2013, 05:42:38 PM: I have found a source of the EU label ratings for all tyres HERE (http://www.blackcircles.com/order/tyres/search). This includes the ones my Tyre dealer gave me but many others too, some of which look better options.

Seems in general that for my tyre size, Dunlops have the quietest (66dB), Continental, Bridgestone and Goodyear have best for Fuel ("B"), and Michelin have the best for wet grip ("A").

The Dunlop is SP Sport 01 £62.29 delivered not fitted
The Goodyear is the Duragrip £54.30
The Michelin is Energy Saver plus £58.21

There is also the Dunlop SP Sport FastResponse which scores C A and 67 for £57.77

Wonder about real work differences for all these, and there is no rating for life.

Sorry, the link just went to Blackcircle website "select your tyres- Results tyres: 0 tyres of 0 options in your selected size shown" so didnt show anything

Good prices on OEM sizes though!

Post by: Downsizer on January 05, 2014, 12:45:53 PM: After 5 years and 48000 miles with a 1.4ES manual, (15" wheels), I have replaced all 4 Dunlop Sport tyres with new Dunlops as follows: The front pair after 27000, nearside rear after 36000 and offside rear after 47000. The cost of the most recent replacement was £64.80 fitted inc VAT. All were replaced because of wear, not damage.

My driving style is fairly gentle, as demonstrated by the overall actual fuel consumption of 48 mpg, based on fuel purchased throughout the life of the car. I was a bit disappointed by the life of the front tyres, but I suppose they do all the work!
