Mark 3 — Known Faults?
« on: June 04, 2020, 08:12:56 PM »
I'm thinking a Mk 3 Jazz will be my next car.

Is there a list of known faults with these as they age?

Thanks.

Engine OK
Gearbox OK
Some rattling clutches for earlier 1.3 6m
Electric system ok
Power windows and door lock ok
Brakes and suspension ok
Climate ok
Some software issues for earlier audio navi units, fixed with updates.

Nothing else at the moment.

The Jazz is a very reliable car.
Most common issues talk  about noises from door seals (needing some lubrication), aerodinamic noises and, as I said before, some troubles with clutches and the audio unit but only for early cars. The middle age restyling carried few modifications, just led headlights for the EX, different bumper design and other minor details, the core of the car has been left unchanged.
Feel safe to buy it.

There was complaints about failed or faulty gearbox mounts. Presumably all or most replaced under warranty.

The owner profile of Honda Jazz is hardly boy racer,  just the opposite in fact so unlikely to find an abused example.  The mechanical and electric parts on Jap cars are normally bulletproof and build quality good,  just too many gadgets on newer cars in general for my liking,  may even find that late MK2 prices secondhand are higher than early MK3,  because the demographic who buy Jazz probably not fond of gadgets...
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

I have read a lot of GK fuel injector and starter problems in North America with less than 100 k driven cars. Are these specific to Mexican built cars or are they known also among Japanese built cars in Europe?

USDM Jazz (Fit) have been built both in Celaya than in Japan.
Honda TSB A18-027 Faulty fuel injectors.
This was a widespread problem on 2015 Fits and maybe early 2016 models. Honda redesigned the fuel injectors to solve the issue.

In Europe, the 1.5 direct injection engines come only with the dynamic 1.5, other Jazz have a 1.3 port injection.

The injector problems have been reported also later modell years, although in smaller numbers.

One more issue I have seen reported is noisy VTC actuator.

Yes, always for the 1.5 and at startup.
In Europe the number of 1.5 is very very low.
