gear knob removal

does the gear knob on the 2018 manual gear stick just unscrew ,i have tried to undo mine but i dont want to put too much pressure on it in case i twist the rod out ,i want to add the 3inch extention to it TIA

There's a knob gag here somewhere. 

Sorry, I had no urge to investigate what keeps it in place (on the Mk2 I used to have). There might be a screw under the insert with the diagram on it, but that would involve taking it apart cleanly.
