Clunk when setting off. Auto, 2010 Ex
« on: October 20, 2019, 08:15:27 PM »
My Jazz makes a bit of a clunk when pulling away from stop or moving slowly. Only apparent when engine is cold. This is the "non-CVT" auto model, which is otherwise fine.Should I be worried?

rear brake pads often stick to disks  (especially if wet).. And release with a naoise varying between clunk and BANG!

I stripped them down, greased all bearing surfaces and sliders.. made no diifference.

Same happened on other cars with rear disks...especially following washing car...(not very often that happens:-)

You need to try and be a bit more specific, does 'the clunk' seem to come from engine/gearbox area? Try putting your hand on gearstick and see if you can feel the clunk in your hand. The i-shift does have a clutch.

Does seem to come from the engine gearbox area, low down.

My '59' reg Jazz i-shift does exactly as you have described.   I now know the answer.  It is simply the mechanical sounds of a wearing, but far from worn out, i-shift gearbox.  It is a metallic sound which is nothing more than gearbox noises.  As long as the box I works properly and of course does not decline into a mashing up metallic sound - all is well. A gearbox specialist gave me this information after examination and a test drive.  My Jazz has done 63k.
Don't worry.
