Anybody care to comment on Supagard?

I’ll be taking delivery of a new Jazz (Vivid blue) in a week or so. The dealer is plugging a product called Supagard. £395 (if I remember correctly) for the Base Pack which comprises “Professionally applied paint sealant and InteriorGard “. The paint sealant “Forms a tough high-gloss, deep transparent protective barrier on your vehicle’s paintwork that remains wash after wash.” InteriorGard “Protects your fabrics and carpets by coating each fibre with a resin-based formula which won’t wash out …”

Any comments please? I am not the most enthusiastic car washer. No doubt I’ll start with good intentions but won’t keep it up especially when the weather gets cold.

It’s not as good as practising a good car care regime.

It might be good for someone too busy to keep-up a good car care regime, but not at that kind of money.

My brother is a car salesman and says the product is not worth the money, they only offer in the hope they might catch someone without the time but the desire to well-maintain their car.

The cost of the actual product and labour is nowhere near the money charged for it.

Yep, it’s huge $$$$ for the dealer (It only actually costs £65 + VAT ) and has a powerful phsyological marketing story to back it up.

“does sir want his shiny new car to look brand new with no effort for years to come? Of course sir does”.

I’ve worked with these type of products in my roles through the motor trade for many years. Get it for free or don’t bother.

Thanks for all of those, they make the decision for me.

He may have thought he was on to a winner when he saw the tatty state of my trade-in. But that started life 14 years ago as my company car so for the first few years, until I retired and bought it, it had no TLC. I’ll have to do better with the new one though.

I too was offered supaguard but i wouldnt buy it

I had supaguard for my new Lexus - before I joined the Lexus Forum. General consensus was that it is a good product but a rip off price by main dealers. Too early for me to comment on just how good it is.

 You can actually buy the supagard sponge that the dealers use from ebay.
 I did my car (2006 jazz sport) and the wife's fiesta with the 1 sponge with no problem. That was 2 years ago so have just been on ebay and got another ..winning bid was £2.19 plus £1.99 postage.. bit cheaper than £300 plus which dealers want.

You may as well buy some of this new PTFE polish on E Bay its the same basic thing and easy to apply.......thats if you dont like regular washing and polishing......
and its a lot cheaper

I use Collnite wax after some Autoglym Super Resin Poish. Works wonders.

Buy a silver Jazz, no need to clean it then.  I learned my lesson when I had a dark metallic blue Civic, the car looked great when it was cleaned but only for a couple of days.

Well, I followed this rec, bought the sponges, and waxed my Jazz. First time I've waxed a car in donkey's years always having used Autoglym or the likes.
Got a pack of two for £9.99 delivered.

Beautiful finish!

I have found over the last few years that Autoglym resin polish is a slight abrasive.....it also has that annoying white dust left all over the car after buffing off.....i use it to get the old polish off just before a new season........the Meguairs products are a very wide selection and all are top quality.......their new Tech Wax 2 is just on the market now, NO WHITE DUST EITHER   SUPERB..............

To avoid this white dust dont apply the polish to the whole car in one go, but apply to one panel at a time and buff off as soon as it hazes.
