Spacesaver tyre
« on: May 12, 2023, 01:33:09 PM »
Hi,

Can anyone who owns a Jazz with the 16 inch tyres confirm the correct size spacesaver

I have seen 125 x 70 x16

And 115 x 70 x 16

I am assuming as long as it has 4 stud holes it will fit? The ones on ebay all look to be very similar.

Thanks

I guess either will fit, I only have a canister so can't confirm. Isn't there a problem with storing a space saver on 18/19 models due to a revised boot floor?

Bolt holes must be 100x4.      There are other 4 bolt patterns that will not fit  such as 98x4 , 108x4, 110x4  and 114.3x4

I am not sure for  space saver but they might also have two types of bolt/nut seating.  Honda use rounded nuts, many other makes use tapered nuts. If you find a wheel that is otherwise suitable but needs tapered nuts you will need to carry a set of 4 tapered  nuts of the correct size and thread pitch  (M12x1.5)    My Yaris needed a different set of nuts for its spacesaver than it used for its alloys.

My wheels are 16's  and I bought a second hand 135 80D 15 spacesaver which is what it recommends in the user manual specifications section.

Good luck finding one and don't forget it needs to be pumped up to 60 psi

The change in floor pan is somewhere during 2019 production. Mine is model year 2019 manufactured in 2018, and it has space for a full size spare.

I purchased a December 2019 Honda Jazz, which only came with the compressor and foam. As others have pointed out, the wheel well in the boot that previously held a spare wheel is no longer deep enough to do so on the later Mark III Jazz models and does not therefore have a fixing point to stop it moving around or coming free in an accident (there are a number of previous topic threads about this matter if you look back).

Having said that, I purchased a Honda space saver steel wheel with 135/80 R15 99M tyre and put it into the wheel well with a lot of sheets to prevent it moving around and have also secured the compressor, foam and a Honda Jack in with it for good measure. For safety, I secured the space saver wheel with 4 ratchet straps connected to the 4 tie-down points in the boot. The thin floor carpet board that covers the wheel well now projects very slightly above where it should be and is not perfectly flat, but I have covered this with a Honda Jazz boot tray so it is not visible and doesn't present any problems with shopping etc.

Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback.

I am due to collect the car next week (March 2019 registered)

Will wait until I get it home and investigate a bit further to see if it can accommodate a full size, spacesaver or nothing!

Bit confusing as I would have thought if it has 16" wheels on then you would need a 16" spacesaver not 15"

I have seen one with 100 x bolt holes but it's 115x70x16 but it sounds as if that won't work if the manual states you need 135x80x15...

Thanks

16" wheels are just for the look, techically 15" are big enough. I have original 16" summer wheels and 15" winter wheels.

Spacesaver recommendation is whats suitable  to get a jazz to the nearest tyre fitters, regardless of whether it has 15" or 16" wheels.  Both 15" and 16"  fit over brake calipers  and have about the same rolling diameter  (What a 15" loses in wheel size it makes up by having tyres with higher side walls )
Spacesavers are often significantly different in size. Much narrower tyre width for a start.  They are only  legal  because  they are clearly marked with a  maximum speed, and quite obviously only a temporary measure  to drive a short distance at slow speed to the nearest tyre fitter. .

New and second hand spacesavers tend to be quite expensive.  If you have a wheel well big enough to fit a  full sized wheel and tyre, second hand, from a compatible Jazz  you may have more choice, and cheaper.
