Just wondering if anyone has bought the new 1.5 vtec SPORT. or had a test drive.
What does it drive like, with 130 BHP ??

I was in my local dealers, enquiringly about a new EX. Asked if you can get it with the 1.5 vtec engine. No.
Only the Sport version, and the salesman proceeded to tell me all about it. Came away with a brochure, after Christmas I said.

I'm probably repeating myself here but why 1.5 when they've just bought out a 1.0 129 ps turbo engine for the new Civic. It has low CO2 as well.
I do realise that there is a debate as to whether small turbo charged engines are indeed the future but Honda have just bought out exactly that so I genuinely don't follow the thinking here.

Some people don't like/want small turbo engines as they are highly stressed, so I suppose offering what the market wants is the path to success. Lots of new Jazz owners, here in the UK, are "more experienced" motorists. In markets where the Jazz demographic is a bit younger, the turbo will be lapped up.

Don't want the scrotes getting interested in Jazz, don't want too much performance as you won't be able to park them safely (especially if they have keyless technology).

When Honda were building the second generation Jazz at Swindon, alongside the UK market production line Honda were building a 1.5 engined version for South Africa, what was a bit like rubbing salt in the wound was that it was being fitted with a proper automatic transmission.
As I understand it when this was brought up, the excuse was that the 1.5 engine did not meet EU emissions. Is this new 1.5 a 'new' engine or have they just fudged around with the existing unit.
Also was or is the 1.5 unit available in the Antipodes along with the USA?

For most of my motoring the current engines are fine. If I did a lot of motorway work I'd want more power. I guess the 1.5 will widen the customer base a bit.

I would imaging it is a derivative of the L15Z range of Honda engines, used in many vehicles since 2014. Engines tend to have extremely long runs due to the cost and complexity of design and development. Like the BMC A series engine, produced from 1951 - 2000 or the B series from 1954 to 1980. Or the Ford Kent, from 1959 - 2002.

My guess is that it will be the 1.5 litre engine as in the HR-V, perhaps slightly de-rated. The HR-V's engine is a big contrast to the 1.3 in the Mk 3 Jazz. Combined with the CVT transmission it's a very smooth motor without the Atkinson cycle tweak.

Indeed, I've just found "a responsive 130PS 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine" mentioned here http://www.honda.co.uk/cars/new/coming-soon/jazz/overview.html (http://www.honda.co.uk/cars/new/coming-soon/jazz/overview.html). However, we can't be 100% sure at this stage that Honda haven't changed the behaviour at the lower end of the revs without changing the headline max horsepower. I would roughly expect the fuel economy of the 1.5 Jazz if it's an unchanged HR-V motor to be mid way between the 1.3 Jazz and HR-V.

Price . I got quoted exactly the same price, for an EX. And the 1.5 Sport. £18,215 on the road,
with a 5 year service pack.

Spoke to my local dealer and was told more info in Feb 18, however looking at info on the web whilst the 1.5 engine will hopefully make it go a bit better there doesn't seem to be climate control just manual a/c. I currently have climate control so was expecting the same. Climate control is available on the latest Jazz so as usual a cost cutting exercise. Anyway I am in no rush to change my car, plenty of life left in it, maybe like my model which is a revised later model Honda will offer it as standard or as a option later.

The Sport deliveries only started on 10 February so not many on the road yet.
I have had my Sport Navi CVT for 2 days now and all I can say is "Wow"! Performance is very good and there is more low end torque so the throttle response is far more linear. I do miss the climate control and keyless entry/start from my previous EX but I would not willingly go back to the 1.3. I will post further updates etc in the thread started by Dayjo.
