Title: How to deal with Aluminium corrosion

In preparation for a plug change. I did a bit of prelim on the removal of the 'Cowl Cover'. After taking off an inspection cover by the brake reservoir I saw that the wiper motor was covered in white pustules.  Now I believe this is corrosion. I did a Google search  but it was all technical way above my head and basically talking about spraying on two coats etc, I think it was aimed at production of aluminium parts and professional protection after manufacture.
Any suggestions on how to clean what I believe to be aluminium oxide off the parts and how to protect them after. Obviously it will have to be done insitu and not taken to a specialist, if I could find one less than mega miles away.

I doubt it's serious Neddy, it will probably brush off with a tooth brush.

Yeah unlike steel oxide (rust) aluminium oxide does not flake off it stays put and protects metal underneath (aluminium oxide is very hard, they make abrasive paper, metal cutting discs and grinding wheels out of it.  If you are worried spray WD40 (one of the few things its good for) or ACF-50 onto it.

Thank you both.  It is probably not as bad as it looked peering through a small aperture.
A soft brush and WD40 will be the order of the day when I do the plugs.

Sometimes zinc or passivated zinc steel bodies are used for motors,  these can also develop a powdery white coating under certain circumstances,  try the motor with a magnet to see if it is aluminium or zinc coated steel - if zinc coated I would not clean it too vigorously and risk removing some of the zinc coating,  rather just wipe it over and use WD or other sticky coating to keep moisture away.

I only looked at it through the aperture by the brake fluid reservoir. It could be just the mounting bracket. Looking at the photograph on the ' DIY lower your GE8 Fit' which gives very clear instruction on 'Cowl' removal, the motor is hidden but appears as you say to be a pressing which of course will be plated.
When we get a nice warm day I shall attempt the plug change.
The WD40 does seem to be the answer.
